HAKONE VENETIAN GLASS MUSEUM

What better way to celebrate Christmas then to surround yourself with family, enchanting forests and exquisite rare glass from Venice. The brisk weather brought an extra charm to the open-air museum as the glass displays sparked like natural Xmas lights. The interior was just as impressive showcasing Venetian art, furniture as well as extremely detailed glass ornaments and trinkets.

Venice became a prominent glassmaking center fusing Roman glassmaking skills from the Byzantine Empire and the Middle East. Many of the pieces dated back as far as 400 years old with fewer and rarer pieces dating back to the 7 th century; 600 years old. The most intriguing pieces were the incredibly elaborative perfume bottles; some being as small as a pastitsios. There’s no doubt that many of your favorite perfume brands today drew inspiration from these stunning regal bottles.
