ODAWARA CASTLE

There are close to 200 castles spread throughout Japan; one in particular is Odawara castle located in Kanagawa Prefecture, which is also home to many amazing landmarks and sightseeing locations heavily visited from people all over the world. The original donjon (Keep) was constructed during the Meiji Period (1870-1872). However, it was reconstructed with reinforced concrete during the 1960’s.

Though the castle itself is highly praised and a nice site to see, I actually enjoyed the journey to the castle more. The river bank leading to the entrance was fun to sit on the available benches to watch koi fish swim towards you as well as and many kinds of birds flocking to you only to watch you back. A small and cozy restaurant sits just in front of the castle offering traditional Japanese dishes.
